Best Old Fashioned Chocolate
Chip Cookies
This recipe began with a Chipits package, when the kids were cookie monster age. Improved and perfected over the years, they’re now exactly the way we like ’em - a flat, soft, chewy cookie.
Set oven to 350°
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
Cream together in a large bowl.
1/2 cup plus 1 tbsp. water
Mix into above mixture.
2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
Mix into above mixture.
1 1/2 cups chocolate chipits. Part butterscotch is nice, if you want a change.
Stir into mixture.
Drop by tablespoons on cookie sheet and place with room to spread.
Bake in the middle of the oven, not lower, for 8 to 10 minutes. They should be golden brown. The bottoms burn easily, so it’s better to take them out too soon than too late. If necessary, putting them back in the oven for an extra couple of minutes does them no harm.
Or they can be rolled and frozen to slice and bake later.
Makes about 3 dozen.
