Dutch Apple Pie
When apples were in season, my Ottawa neighbour Sharron Welby and her family, used to pick a bushel and we'd bake a few Dutch and a few plain and I'd always do one or two Old Fashioned and freeze them for when we were too busy at
Christmas or Thanksgiving.
Set oven to 400°, or
Convection bake at 375°, for about 35 mins. Check after 30 mins, because the crust can brown too quickly sometimes.
Filling
6 to 8 apples
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 to 3/4 cups flour
Peel and core and chop the apples and mix together with the sugars and flour. Put into uncooked pie shell.
Topping
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1/2 to 3/4 cup flour
Mix together in bowl.
1 cup butter
Add to rest and crumble on top of filling. Bake until apples are tender, maybe 45 minutes.
