Chocolate Sundae Cake
“Good!” is printed in Sarah’s young hand at the top of this recipe. She used to ask for it a lot, but especially on Sundays.
Set oven to 350°
Butter a 9” pan, and dust with cocoa
Sauce
1 cup white sugar
4 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. cornstarch
Mix together, in medium saucepan.
1/4 cup milk
Stir into above mixture, and cook over medium heat until hot and smooth.
2 tbsp. butter
Stir into mixture and pour mixture into cake pan.
Batter
2 cups sifted flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 cup white sugar
Sift into medium bowl.
1/3 cups soft butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 cup milk
Stir into mixture in bowl.
2 squares of semi-sweet chocolate (melted)
Stir into mixture in bowl and beat 2 minutes.
Pour into the cake pan, spreading evenly over the sauce.
Bake until cake is cooked through, about 40 to 45 minutes, and while it’s still warm, turn it out into a serving dish.
Cut into squares, and top with whipped cream or eat it up as is.
Also yummy cold.
