Christmas Morning Wife Saver
First enjoyed at the 2007 Christmas brunch at Michelle’s house. Now my Go To standard when we have weekend guests at Sleepyhead, and it'll be forever known here as "The Wifebeater" after I accidentally called it that one jolly Christmas Eve.
Prepare The Night Before Christmas . .
16 slices white bread with crusts removed
16 slices ham (packaged is fine)
16 slices sharp cheddar cheese
In a 9””x 13” buttered pyrex dish, put 8 pieces of bread. Add pieces to cover dish entirely. Cover bread with slices of ham. Lay slices of cheese on top of ham and then cover with slices of bread to make it like a sandwich.
6 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
1/4 cup minced onion
1/4 cup green pepper, finely chopped
1 to 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
3 cups whole milk
dash hot pepper sauce
In a bowl, beat eggs, beat in the rest and pour over the sandwiches.
Cover and let stand in fridge overnight.
Next day, set oven to 350°.
1/4 lb. butter
Special K or Corn Flakes, crushed
Christmas morning, melt butter, pour over top. Cover with Special K or corn flakes. Bake uncovered 1 hour while you open gifts.
Let sit 10 minutes before serving.
