Christmas Pudding Sauce
I think Mom bought the Christmas pudding from the bread man (was it Weston's, or Christie's?), but the sauce was homemade . . . and fully loaded with brandy or rum or whatever was in the house.
2 egg yolks
1/2 cup sugar
4 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. flour
1 cup water
Mix yolks and sugar and butter in heavy saucepan over low heat, until butter has melted. Whisk in the flour and then water and keep whisking quickly, over medium heat, until it comes to a boil. Remove from heat and add as much booze as you like. Brandy is good. So is rum. Or whisky. Some people just sprinkle a little nutmeg in.
