Mom’s Date & Nut Loaf
Remember this one?
Set oven to 300°
1 cup dates, chopped
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup boiling water
Dissolve baking soda in boiling water. Add dates, let stand until cool.
1 tbsp. butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 egg unbeaten
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
1 1/2 cups flour
1/4 tsp. salt
Cream butter and brown sugar. Add egg, beat. Add flour and salt alternately with date mixture. Add nuts.
Pour into greased loaf pan. Allow to stand in pan 20 minutes before baking.
Bake for 50 to 60 minutes.
